After a record-setting race in the women's 5000m at Wheaton College's Don Church Twilight Meet on Saturday, Forester track's Madeline Morland was named Women's Forester Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Morland separated herself from the pack with a mile and a half left to go in the race and only widened the gap from there, eventually gaining a 20 second lead on the next closest competitor. She finished with a time of 18:17.54, winning the event handily and breaking the previous school record by 50 seconds.
Morland now holds the number one rank in both the 1500m (by 2 seconds) and the 5000m (by 10 seconds) races in the Midwest Conference.
Forester Athletes of the Week are voted for by the athletic department on Tuesdays.
