The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 3-1 by visiting Adrian College Friday night. The Bulldogs entered the weekend as the 10th-ranked team in the nation. Forester sophomore goaltender saved 41 of 43 shots on goal in the contest.
The visitors got on the scoreboard first just 63 seconds into the contest. Adrian out-shot Lake Forest 13-7 in the opening period but the score was still 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
Both teams were on the ice to honor Tony Fritz and Ken Klein during the first intermission. Fritz was Lake Forest's head coach from 1978-2010 and Klein was one of his assistants first the final 18 seasons. Both retired from behind the Forester bench last spring.
An inspired Lake Forest team pulled even with the Bulldogs 75 seconds into the second period on freshman Craig McDowell's second goal of the season. He was assisted by sophomore Zak Borowski and freshman forward Chris Gard. The Foresters were out-shot 16-13 in the second period but the score was still tied 1-1 with 20 minutes top play.
Adrian scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at the 15:21 mark of the third period. The visitors added an empty net goal with nine ticks left on the clock to seal the victory.
Sullivan has now saved 113 of 120 shots on goal this season for a .942 save percentage.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at wmxm.org.
