The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 4-2 by Bethel University at home on Saturday. Forester sophomore Logan Taylor scored early in the third period to make the score 3-2 but the home team was unable to complete the comeback.
Taylor's score at the 4:39 mark was her seventh of the season and was assisted by fellow sophomore forwards Michelle Greeneway and Melissa Paluch. Bethel, however, converted a power play opportunity with 2:13 to play in the contest to close out the scoring.
Both teams also scored once in the opening period, beginning with the Royals' first power play goal of the game at 15:37. The Foresters got on the scoreboard just 37 seconds later on freshman forward Allie Girard's fifth score of the year. She was assisted by junior forward Emily Wybo.
The deciding period turned out to be the second. Despite a 13-4 edge for the Foresters in shots on goal, Bethel scored twice and the Royals' goalie blanked Lake Forest throughout the 20-minute frame.
The loss drops the Foresters' record on the season to 7-4-3 while Bethel improved to 9-2-2.
Lake Forest will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play at home against Marian University next weekend. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:00 and again at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
