The Forester women's hockey team won 4-0 at Concordia University Wisconsin Friday night to begin this weekend's home-and-home series with the Falcons. Lake Forest freshman goaltender Casey Hartfiel made 23 saves in her first career shutout.
Hartfiel kept the home team off the scoreboard despite the Foresters being outshot 13-4 in the first 20 minutes. Lake Forest killed four penalties in the period, including one that gave the Falcons a 5-on-3 advantage for nearly a minute. The visitors had a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal in the second period and a 13-5 edge in the third.
Lake Forest junior forward Morgan Pope broke the scoreless tie at the 1:43 mark of the second period. Fellow junior forward Emily Wybo and sophomore forward Holly Lesperance assisted on Pope's fourth goal of the season and the sixth official game-winner of her career, tying her for fourth place in program history.
Concordia Wisconsin was cited for its first penalty on the contest just 22 seconds later and Forester sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway scored just 15 seconds into the power play. Greeneway's fourth goal of the year was assisted by sophomore defenseman Natalie Pattison and senior defenseman Sarah Gilbride.
An unassisted score by sophomore Logan Taylor, her second goal of the season, at the 15:34 mark gave the visitors a 3-0 lead going into the third period.
Sophomore forward Melissa Paluch closed out the scoring with her first goal of the year at 7:16 in the final period. Greeneway assisted on the score, giving her a team-high six points on the season.
Hartfiel improved her goals against average to 2.37 and save percentage to .920.
Lake Forest is now 2-2-1, both overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Concordia Wisconsin fell to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the league.
The Foresters and Falcons will face off again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Forest College.
