The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 4-2 by visiting Adrian College Friday night in the season opener for both teams. After missing all but two game last season due to injury, Lake Forest sophomore forward Holly Lesperance scored her first career goal.
The unassisted score by Lesperance knotted the game at one with six minutes to play in the opening period. Adrian had scored the game's first goal at the 2:15 mark. Lake Forest had a 16-6 advantage in shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes but the score was tied at one at the first intermission.
The Bulldogs regained the lead at 2:36 in the second period and doubled the margin just 74 seconds later. The Foresters pulled back to within a goal at 18:28 when sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway converted a breakaway opportunity for an unassisted short-handed goal. Adrian had a slight 13-12 edge in shots in the second period.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 15-6 but were unable to score in the third period. Adrian added an insurance goal while on a 5-on-3 power play at the 6:28 mark.
The Bulldogs were 1-for-3 on the power play in the game while the Foresters were shut out in five power play opportunities.
The same two teams will face off again in Alumni Memorial Field House Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
