The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 4-3 at St. Norbert College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation by D3hockey.com, on Saturday. Sophomore forward Logan Taylor scored to give the Foresters a 2-1 lead late in the first period but they were unable to hold on.
Taylor's first goal of the season was assisted by fellow sophomores Michelle Greeneway and Melissa Paluch just 33 seconds before the first intermission. Junior forward Morgan Pope's power play goal at 14:08 was the first score of the day and the Green Knights had tied the game at 17:02. Pope's goal tied her for the team lead with three on the year and was assisted by sophomore Alex Stensland.
St. Norbert tied the score at the 3:02 mark of the second period and took the lead at 9:08.
Forester junior forward Emily Wybo netted an unassisted score, her first of the season, to tie the score again with 1:51 remaining in the second stanza. The green Knights, however, scored what turned out to be the game's final goal with five seconds on the second period clock.
Lake Forest had a 16-9 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and put 43 shots on target in the game compared to 37 for the Green Knights. The Foresters have outshot their opponents in all four games this season but are just 1-2-1, both overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.
St. Norbert raised its overall record to 3-0-1 and league mark to 1-0-1.
The Foresters will play a home-and-home series with Concordia University Wisconsin next weekend. The teams will face off in Mequon, Wisconsin, Friday night at 7:30 and at Lake Forest Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
