Lake Forest College Director of Athletics Jackie Slaats announced Friday that Dan Andrews would be the Foresters' next head men's soccer coach. Andrews, an assistant with the team in 2014, replaces Chris Bergmann, who recently left the College to become the head women's soccer coach at Virginia Military Institute.
Andrews helped lead the Foresters to a 6-2-2 Midwest Conference record last fall, good for second place in the league standings. Lake Forest made its fourth consecutive trip to the four-team MWC Tournament and had three players earn all-conference honors. Andrews assisted the Foresters' head coach in all facets of practice, game, and travel preparation, as well as with player development, recruiting, scouting, and maintaining the team's academic success. He has also led the program's recruiting efforts over the last few months.
The coaching position at Lake Forest was not the first at the collegiate level for Andrews, who was an assistant at Moody Bible Institute, his alma mater, from 2009-11. He helped lead Moody to a pair of regional titles and the 2011 NCCAA National Championship.
Prior to joining the staff at Lake Forest, Andrews held coaching positions at the high school and club levels. He holds a United States Soccer Federation D License and is also the Senior Youth Director of Coaching at Bartlett Travel Soccer Club in Bartlett, Illinois.
A native of Leeds, England, Andrews played for Leeds United FC Youth Academy as a young teen before moving to the United States after high school. He scored 66 goals in four years at Moody Bible Institute and was a two-time All-American and two-year team captain.
"I am very excited to have Coach Andrews take over as our head men's soccer coach," stated Slaats. "He has been a great asset for the team and our department since he joined the staff and his contributions over the last few months have kept the program heading in the right direction. It became clear during the interview process that his philosophies and values make him a perfect fit for Lake Forest College and Forester Athletics and I look forward to continued success for our men's soccer team."
"I want to thank Coach Slaats for her confidence in me and for giving me the opportunity to lead the men's soccer program at Lake Forest College," began Andrews. "The Foresters have developed significantly under Coach Bergmann and I am honored to have the chance to take the program to new levels of success on the field, as well as in the classroom and on campus. We will set our individual and team goals extremely high and work very hard to achieve them."
Andrews will be the ninth head coach in the program's history. The Foresters have posted an all-time overall record of 463-265-54 (.627) in 54 seasons. They also own a mark of 211-74-18 (.726) in MWC play and have captured 16 conference championships since joining the league in 1974.
