The Lake Forest College men's soccer team scored four goals in a 38-minute span and kept visiting Ripon College off the scoreboard in a 4-0 blanking of the Red Hawks Saturday morning. Junior Dylan Hartman scored two of the Foresters' four goals.
Hartman took a pass from junior Themis Mourikes and blasted the ball into the upper-right corner of the goal from 25 yards away to give the home team the lead just two-and-a-half minutes into the contest.
Mourikes also assisted on the Foresters' second goal at 8:49. Freshman Elyas Ingram tapped the ball awa from a Ripon defender to Mourikes, who played a well-placed through ball to junior Olivier Twagirakristu. Twagirakristu sent the ball past the Red Hawk goalie from less than 10 yards away for his first goal of the year.
Hartman netted his second score of the game and season just 74 seconds later. A long throw-in from the right sideline by Ingram grazed freshman Dayne Johnson's head and bounced off Twagirakristu's foot before Hartman finished off the score from point blank range.
Less than two minutes after entering the game, sophomore Fernando Figueroa set up senior Hugh Watanabe on Foresters' fourth goal. Figueroa battled for the ball near midfield and ended up leading Watanabe up the right side of the field. Watanabe out-ran a Ripon defender and beat the goalie near-post for his first score of the season.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 17-2 in the first half and 21-2 in a scoreless second period.
Forester senior goalkeeper Ian Taylor kept the Red Hawks off the scoreboard in the opening period to earn the victory. Freshman Erik Sanetra made one save in the second half and kep the shutout intact.
The Foresters are now 2-5-0 overall while Ripon's record fell to 4-3-1. It was the Midwest Conference opener for both teams.
Lake Forest's next game will be a non-conference contest against visiting North Central College Tuesday afternoon at 4:30.
