The Lake Forest College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Midwest Conference play by defeating host St. Norbert College 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. Forester sophomore Ellis Rutili scored the game-winner in the 96th minute.
Several Foresters contributed to the score, beginning with freshman Elyas Ingram, who sprinted with the ball up the right sideline and played the ball into the box to senior Hugh Watanabe. Watanabe sent the ball in front of the goal to junior Dylan Hartman, whose deflection was saved by the St. Norbert goalkeeper. The ball caromed to Rutilli, who settled it and sent it into the left side of the net to end the game.
It was the first goal of the season for Rutili and his second career game-winner. Hartman's assist was his team-high fifth of the year.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Ian Taylor made three saves for his second shutout of the season and the sixth of his career. He improved to 4-5-2 with a 1.03 goals against average on the year.
The Foresters out-shot the Green Knights 7-6 in the first half and 11-4 in the second. Both squads attempted a pair of shots in overtime. The visitors also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The victory raises Lake Forest's overall record to 5-6-2 and MWC mark to 4-0-2, one point out of first place in the conference standings. St. Norbert fell to 7-1-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the league.
The Foresters will host rival Carroll University Wednesday afternoon at 4:00.
