Junior Cesar Sandoval was one of four Foresters with two goals and an assist in the team's 11-0 victory over visiting Cornell College on Sunday. It matched the third-highest single-game scoring output in program history.
Sandoval's first goal as a Forester gave the home team a 2-0 lead just eight-and-a-half minutes into the contest. His second closed out the scoring at the 52:15 mark. He also assisted on one of the team's four goals in the first 7:15 of the second half.
Freshman Elyas Ingram, junior Dylan Hartman, and senior Hugh Watanabe also had two goals and an assist apiece. Ingram started the scoring barrage at the 7:50 mark and netted the fifth goal of the game at 20:15. Watanabe had a score in each half and both of Hartman's goals occurred in the first 2:10 of the second half, including one just nine seconds into the period.
Forester freshman Finnian Bunta scored the first two goals of his career in less than a two-minute span late in the first half and fellow freshman Seton Trostle was responsible for Lake Forest's other goal. Senior Kyle Kraus and junior Jeremiah Erzen each recorded a pair of assists.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Ian Taylor recorded one save in the first 55:17 and sophomore goalie Bjorn Trail-Johnson kept the Rams off the scoreboard for the final 34:43 to finish off the shutout.
The 11 goals are just two shy of the program record set in 2010 against Finlandia University and one off the Foresters' output against the University of Chicago in 1975.
The Foresters are now 3-6-2 overall this season and 2-0-2 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell fell to 2-9-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to Beloit College for another MWC contest on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
