The Lake Forest College men's soccer team saw its 2014 season come to an end on Friday in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament at Knox College. The Foresters were defeated 2-1 by Carroll University, despite a goal by senior Kyle Kraus in his final career game.
Kraus was assisted by freshman Elyas Ingram at the 18:03 mark and it turned out to be the final goal of the game. It was the third goal in as many games for Kraus, who was moved to forward late in the season.
Carroll had started the scoring at the 7:07 mark and netted another goal five minutes later.
Lake Forest out-shot the Pioneers 14-12 in the game but 10 of Carroll's 12 shots were on goal. Forester senior Ian Taylor made a career-high-tying eight saves, including the 100th of his career. He finished his four seasons ranked ninth in team history with 107 career saves.
The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the year to 7-10-2. Carroll advances to Saturday's tournament final against Knox with a mark of 9-8-2.
In addition to Kraus and Taylor, Lake Forest will lose Hugh Watanabe, Max Shaw, Cooper King, and Alberto Pedraza to graduation in May. They have helped lead the team to a 49-24-6 overall record, a 29-6-4 mark in league play, two conference championships, and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament during the last four years.
