The Lake Forest College men's soccer team was defeated 2-1 in overtime in an Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) Soccer Showcase contest at the University of St. Thomas Friday evening. Senior defender Max Shaw scored the Foresters' only goal less than 10 minutes into the contest.
Shaw's first goal this season and the third score of his career was assisted by junior forward Dylan Hartman at the 9:40 mark.
St. Thomas tied the score with 1:41 remaining in the opening period.
The home team had a 6-3 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes and attempted the only corner kick of the first half. Lake Forest was out-shot 4-3 in the second half but produced six corner kick opportunities in the period to the Tommies' four.
The winning goal was scored with 58 seconds remaining in the 10-minute overtime.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Ian Taylor recorded one save in the first half, two in the second, and one in overtime.
The Foresters are now 1-2-0 and St. Thomas 2-1-0 this season. Lake Forest will play another game at the ACM Soccer Showcase at Macalester College Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
