The Lake Forest College women's soccer team suffered its first and only loss of the season on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Foresters fell 1-0 in overtime to visiting Aurora University and finished the year with the best record in program history at 21-1-0.
With snow falling throughout much of the game, the Foresters and Spartans played a pair of scoreless halves before Aurora netted the only goal of the game in the 96th minute.
Lake Forest has a 4-3 edge in shots in the opening period but were out-shot 11-7 in the second half and 2-0 in overtime.
Forester sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made five saves in the game and finished the season 17-1-0 with a 0.88 goals against average.
Lake Forest had defeated the College of St. Scholastica 2-1 in overtime in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday. It was the first NCAA Tournament victory in team history.
The Foresters' 21 wins on the year are six more than the previous program record of 15 set in 1996. The team also shattered the school record for goals in a season with 79, 21 more than the previous mark.
Lake Forest will lose just one senior, Michele Giurovici, to graduation in May.
