The Forester women's soccer team blanked Beloit College 6-0 on the road on Wednesday. Lake Forest junior Michelle Greeneway had a goal and two assists in the game and is now the program's career leader in points.
Greeneway, already the school record holder in goals, began the game tied for second in team history with 141 career points. Her goal at the 38:07 mark moved her ahead of previous record-holder Melissa Stevenson, who finished her career in 2005 with 142. Greeneway added a pair of assists later in the contest and now has 145 points in just her third season of play. She also ranks tied-for-ninth in team history with 21 career assists.
Sophomore Nina Perkkio actually started the scoring on Wednesday at 26:11 with her first of two goals in the game . She was assisted by junior Holly Lesperance. Freshman Mimi Vaintrub earned the assist on Greeneway's score, the first of her career.
Just 24 seconds after scoring her 21st goal of the year, Greeneway assisted on the first career goal for freshman Abby Carlson.
Lake Forest added a fourth goal with 1:17 remaining in the half. It was the first score of the season for junior Ellen Rogers and she was assisted by sophomore Kyle Chavarria.
Perkkio netted her second score of the game and fifth this year just 93 seconds after halftime with Greeneway picking up the assist.
Carlson closed out the scoring at 59:13 and junior Nicole Ostro assisted on the goal for her first point of the season.
Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made a pair of saves in the first half and classmate Caroline Kirsch kept the Buccaneers off the scoreboard for the final 45 minutes.
The visitors had a 35-3 advantage in shots in the contest and attempted the game's only six corner kicks.
The Foresters, ranked 17th in the nation in this week's D3soccer.com poll, are now 15-0-0 overall this season and 7-0-0 in Midwest Conference play. Beloit fell to 3-10-1 overall and 0-6-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will continue conference play this weekend, traveling to Monmouth College on Saturday and Illinois College on Sunday. Both games will begin at 1:30 p.m. A victory in either contest will clinch the Foresters' second MWC title in the last three years and the fifth in program history.
