The Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated Coe College 3-1 Friday afternoon at the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Soccer Showcase. Junior forward Holly Lesperance scored two of the Foresters' three goals.
The Foresters out-shot the Kohawks 9-2 in a scoreless first half. Lake Forest also had three corner kick opportunities but were offsides four times in the period.
Lesperance started the scoring with a rebound goal five-and-a-half minutes into the second half. Fellow junior forward Michelle Greeneway, who scored the team's first five goals of the season, assisted on the score.
Sophomore midfielder Kyle Chavarria doubled the Forester lead three minutes later with junior defender Sam Hillis picking up the assist. Hillis' corner kick was stopped but Chavarria was there for the score.
Hillis also set up Lake Forest's third goal of the game on a well-placed cross from the left side of the field that Lesperance deflected into the goal for her second score of the contest and season. Hillis tied Lesperance for the team lead with her third assist of the year.
Coe finally got on the scoreboard with 17 minutes remaining in the game.
Forester sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Kirsch made five saves, including four in the second half, to improve her record on the year to 2-0-0.
The game was played at Macalester College, Lake Forest's opponent on Sunday. The Foresters will put their 3-0-0 record on the line against the Scots at 11:30 a.m.
