The Forester women's soccer team hosted and defeated Knox College 7-2 on Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams. It was a record-setting day for the team and juniors Michelle Greeneway and Sam Hillis.
Greeneway scored four of the Foresters' goals, giving her 27 on the season, two more than the previous program record she set last year. It was her first career four-goal game and she also had an assist, giving her nine points on the day and a team record 63 on the season.
Hillis assisted on four of the team's goals on Saturday, tying the team record. She also matched the highest single-season assist total of 17 originally set by Melissa Stevenson in 2003.
In addition to the individual records set by Greeneway and Hillis the Foresters finally surpassed the previous team record of 58 goals in a season, originally set in 1995 and tied five times before 2014. They now have 65 goals this year.
Greeneway started the scoring on Saturday at the 3:53 mark by heading in a corner kick from Hillis. Lake Forest junior Holly Lesperance then netted her 10th goal of the year on another Hillis corner at 6:01. Passes by sophomore Katelyn Hronek and freshman Kayla Wuest set up Greeneway again with what turned out to be the official game-winner at 14:34 and Lesperance added her second of the day and 11th this year at 24:20. She was assisted by Greeneway and sophomore Nina Perkkio.
Ahead 4-0 at halfime, the Foresters extended their lead at the 50:19 mark when Greeneway completed her third hat trick of the season. Hillis assisted on the score. The record-tying helper by Hillis came on another corner kick at 57:44. Sophomore Amy Sherman headed it in for her first goal of the year. The final Foresters tally came off the foot of Greeneway at 60:08. Lesperance set up the score, reaching double figures on the season in assists after accomplishing the feat in goals earlier in the game.
Knox got on the scoreboard at the 63:10 mark and added a second goal at 73:56.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 15-0 in the first half and 12-5 in the final 45 minutes.
Forester sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta held the Prairie Fire scoreless in the first half and earned the victory, raising her record on the year to 14-0-0 and lowering her goals against average to 0.74.
Lake Forest completed the regular season without a loss or tie for the first time in team history. The Foresters completed their league schedule 10-0-0 and will take an 18-0-0 record into next weekend's MWC Tournament, which they will host. Knox fell to 3-14-0 overall and 0-10-0 in the league.
