The Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated visiting Monmouth College 2-0 on Saturday. Senior forward Holly Lesperance scored both of the Foresters' goals.
Lesperance gave the home team the lead exactly 14 minutes into the contest. A corner kick from senior defender Sam Hillis came down in front of the goal and several players from both teams got a foot on the ball before Lesperance kicked it past the Monmouth goalkeeper for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
The second goal was also scored as a result of the Foresters getting the ball into the penalty box. An attempt by the Fighting Scots to clear the ball was intercepted by Lesperance, who used her left to send it back in and past the goalie again with her left foot. It was the 11th goal of the season and sixth in the last two games for Lesperance. She now has 50 goals in her career.
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 18-1 in the first half and 9-0 in the final 45 minutes.
Forester junior goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta improved to 6-2-1 with six shutouts on the season. She now has 13 shutouts in her career, the third-highest total in team history.
The vistory raised Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 11-2-2 and the team is now 6-0-1 in Midwest Conference play. Monmouth fell to 3-11-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the league.
The Foresters will host Illinois College Sunday morning at 11:00.
