The Lake Forest College women's soccer team edged out host Carroll University 3-2 Wednesday night to remain unbeaten in Midwest Conference play. Forester senior forward Michelle Greeneway scored the game's first and last goals.
Greeneway gave the visitors the early lead at the 12:24 mark when she headed in a corner kick from senior defender Sam Hillis.
Carroll, however, tied the game at 30:06 and the score remained 1-1 for the rest of the first half as the Pioneers out-shot the Foresters 4-3 in the period.
Lake Forest regained the advantage on senior forward Holly Lesperance's fifth goal of the year at 51:39.
The lead did not last long as Carroll scored for the second time on the night just 30 seconds after Lesperance.
What proved to be the game-winning goal was scored by Greeneway with just 10:27 to play in the second half. Her team-high 20th goal of the year was assisted by junior midfielder Nina Perkkio. It was Greeneway's fourth consecutive multi-goal game and sixth this year. She now has 94 scores in her career, including 27 game-winners.
The visitors had a 12-3 advantage in shot in the second half.
Forester freshman goalkeeper Kaylee Price made a pair of saves in the contest and improved to 3-0-1 on the season.
Lake Forest is now 9-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Midwest Conference play this year. Carroll fell to 7-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the league.
After a weekend off, the Foresters will resume conference play against visiting Beloit College next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
