The Lake Forest College women's soccer team, ranked 14th in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of American Preseason Poll, recorded a 3-0 victory over visiting Edgewood College on Sunday. Senior forward Holly Lesperance assisted on the first two goals and scored the third for her second straight four-point game.
Lesperance headed a corner kick from senior Sam Hillis into the cluster of players in front of the goal, where junior defender Amy Sherman received it and kicked it past the Eagle goalkeeper at the 14:26 mark. It was Sherman's first goal of the season and Hillis now trails the program record of 37 career assists by just one.
The home team added to its lead 10-and-a-half minutes later when Lesperance set up senior forward Michelle Greeneway's second score of the season and 76th of her career.
Lake Forest had a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard at halftime and out-shot Edgewood 10-1 in the period. The Foresters attempted nine shots in the second half, four more than the Eagles.
Lesperance netted her team-high third goal of the season at 60:21 off a well-played give-and-go with junior midfielder Nina Perkkio.
Forester junior goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made three saves in the contest for her second shutout of the season and ninth of her career.
Lake Forest is now 2-0-0 and will travel to Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
