The Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated Evangel University 5-2 on Saturday. Forester senior forward Michelle Greeneway needed less than 20 minutes to record her 11th career hat trick.
Greeneway headed in a free kick from senior midfielder Ellen Rogers just 104 seconds into the contest and scored off another pass from Rogers at 8:04. Junior midfielder Katelyn Hronek assisted Greeneway at 18:39 to give the Foresters a 3-0 advantage. Greeneway now has a team-high six goals in five games this season and 80 in her 66 career appearances.
Freshman forward Charlotte Jackson netted her first career goal at the 31:49 mark and Evangel completed the first half scoring with a goal at 38:43.
The Crusaders pulled to within a pair of goals with a score at 74:12. The Foresters, however, regained their three-goal advantage 2:16 later when freshman freshman forward Catherine Bernish netted her first career goal, with freshman midfielder Jo Hendriksen assisting on the play for her first point.
Lake Forest out-shot Evangel 14-3 in the opening period and 15-2 during the final 45 minutes.
Forester freshman goalkeepers Kaylee Price and Carrie Wynkoop split the game with Price officially earning the victory.
Lake Forest is now 3-1-1 on the season while Evangel fell to 0-4-0.
The Foresters will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
