The Lake Forest College women's soccer team won 3-0 at Illinois College on Sunday to finish the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 8-1-1 in Midwest Conference play. The victory clinches at least a share of the 2012 MWC title for the Foresters.
All the other teams in the league have at least two losses except for St. Norbert College, which is 5-1-1 with a tie against the Foresters and three conference games yet to play. If Lake Forest and the Green Knights finish tied atop the standings, they will share the title and the team with the better goal differential will host the four-team MWC Tournament November 2-3. The Foresters currently have a six-goal advantage in that category but St. Norbert still has three games to play.
Lake Forest freshman Holly Lesperance started the scoring on Sunday with her team-high 14th goal of the season at 48:05. Classmate Michelle Greeneway assisted on what also turned out to be the sixth official game-winning goal of the year for Lesperance.
Junior Courtenay Raymond doubled the visitors' lead just three minutes later on her second goal of the season.
Greeneway matched Lesperance with her 14th score of 2012 at 66:10. Her goal was also unassisted.
The Foresters out-shot the Lady Blues 14-5 in the scoreless first half and 15-5 in the final 45 minutes.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger recorded five saves in her sixth complete game shutout and ninth scoreless start of the season. She improved her goals against average to 1.21 and save percentage to .806.
Illinois College fell to 7-8-2 overall and 3-4-2 in league play.
The Foresters will not play again until the semifinals of the MWC Tournament on November 2.
