The Lake Forest College women's soccer team posted a 4-2 victory over visiting Benedictine University in its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday. Junior Emily Keast started the scoring just three minutes into the contest.
Keast was in perfect position near the goal line when a corner kick off the foot of freshman Fiona Jessup sailed over the Benedictine goalkeeper. Keast kicked it in for her second goal of the season.
The home team struck again at 7:23 when freshman Ellen Rogers blasted a shot over the goalie's outstretched arms and into the goal from nearly 30 yards away.
Five minutes later the Eagle goalkeeper tried to clear the ball but Forester freshman Holly Lesperance stopped the ball with her left foot and kicked it back into the goal with her right from 20 yards out. It was her 12th score of the season and also turned out to be her fifth game-winner.
Benedictine got on the scoreboard at 32:48 and the Foresters led 3-1 at the end of the first half.
The Eagles pulled to within a goal less than five minutes into the second half but Lake Forest regained its two-goal advantage at 62:03. Lesperance passed the ball toward, freshman Michelle Greeneway, who kicked it up the right side of the field, where senior Lisa Sorensen got close enough to send it past the goalie for the final score of the game. It was Sorensen's fourth goal of the season and the 30th of her career, moving her into eighth place in program history. She also climbed into at tie with Paige Pancratz (1992-95) for sixth place in career points with 85.
The Foresters outshot the Eagles 9-6 in the first half and 11-3 in the final 45 minutes.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger recorded three saves in her 40th career victory.
The Foresters are now 11-4-1 overall this season while Benedictine fell to 5-9-2.
Lake Forest will conclude the regular season with a pair of Midwest Conference games this weekend. The Foresters will play at Monmouth College Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and at Illinois College at the same time on Sunday. Victories in both contests would clinch the Foresters' fourth conference title in team history and their right to host the four-team 2012 MWC Tournament November 2-3.
