The Lake Forest College women's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit and defeated visiting Ripon College 3-2 in double-overtime on Saturday. Senior Lisa Sorensen scored a goal to start the Forester comeback and assisted on the game-winner.
Sorensen's second score of the season trimmed the Ripon lead to 2-1 at the 57:38 mark. It was her 29th career goal, moving her into a tie with Paige Pancratz (1992-95) for ninth place in program history.
The goal to tie the game was scored on a header by freshman Michelle Greeneway with just 8:53 remaining in regulation. Her team-high ninth goal of the year was set up by a well-placed corner kick by fellow freshman Sam Hillis. It was the first career point for Hillis.
After one scoreless 10-minute overtime period, Forester freshman Holly Lesperance scored just 20 seconds into the second extra frame. Sorensen got a foot on the ball, which bounced off a Ripon defender to Lesperance, who did not miss from point-blank range. It was the eighth goal and the fourth game-winner for Lesperance.
Ripon's goals were scored just six minutes apart in the middle of the first half. Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger held the Red Hawks scoreless the rest of the way to earn the victory, the 36th of her career against just 20 losses.
The Foresters out-shot the visitors 26-7 in the contest and had 10 corner kick opportunities to the Red Hawks' one.
Lake Forest raised its overall record to 7-4-0 and remained perfect in five Midwest Conference games. Ripon fell to 5-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the league.
The Foresters will host Carroll University Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
