Junior Mike Violette scored a goal and added two assists and senior goalie Brendan Sullivan made 18 saves as the Lake Forest men's hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Finlandia with a 5-0 shutout Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Lake Forest improves to 7-8-2 overall and 4-7-1 in the MCHA while Finlandia dropped to 3-14 overall and 3-9 in the MCHA.
Violette out the Foresters on the board at 9:24 of the first period on a one timer from the face off circle that deflected off Finlandia goalie Troy Chandler and in the goal.
Lake Forest took a 2-0 lead at 12:58 as freshman defenseman Peter Nesper scored a power play goal. Sophomore forward Mcauley Banning and junior center Chris Gard assisted on the goal.
At 3:27 of the second period, sophomore defenseman Charlie Stein scored his first career goal with the Foresters on the power play. Sophomore forward Jason McAloon and Banning assisted on the goal.
The Foresters added two third period goals by sophomore forward Luke Swardenski and junior defenseman Andrew Stein at 5:00 and 8:00 respectively. Violette assisted on both goals and junior forward Roberto Caparelli and sophomore foward Bobby Barrett picked up assists on the goals.
Chandler finished with 28 saves in 47:45 of play and was replaced with Jordan Marr who made seven saves in 12 minutes of action.
Lake Forest hosts Concordia Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse before traveling to Concordia Wisconsin the next night for a 7:30 p.m. game.
