The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 4-2 by visiting Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday night. Sophomore Ben Certo's first career goal brought Lake Forest back to within one in the third period but, for the second straight night, an empty net score by the Falcons put the game out of reach.
Certo's score came at the 7:05 mark of the final period and the Foresters had a 10-9 edge in shots on goal during the last 20 minutes of the game but were unable to tie the score. Sophomore Jordan Bruce picked up an assist on the play.
Concordia Wisconsin scored an empty net goal with 1:11 to play to regain the two-goal lead.
A power play goal by the Falcons was the only score of the first period.
The Foresters tied the game on a power play goal of their own by junior Roberto Caparelli midway throught the second period. Caparelli's first score of the season was assisted by Certo and fellow sophomore Mcauley Banning.
The Falcons, however, pulled ahead again with 2:16 remaining in the second and the visitors extended their lead at the 6:09 mark of the third.
Concordia had an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and a 13-7 edge in the second.
The Foresters fell to 1-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play. Concordia Wisconsin is now 4-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will host Adrian College next weekend. The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and again at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
