The Lake Forest College women's hockey team has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second straight season and will once again play at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the quarterfinal round.
The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will be available at Hunt Arena in River Falls, Wisconsin, at 1:00 p.m. The prices are $8 for adults and $4 for students (age 3 and up) and senior citizens.
The Foresters qualified for the NCAA Tournament by defeating Concordia University Wisconsin 2-1 Saturday in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Championship Game at Adrian College. The game-winning goal was scored with just 3.3 seconds remaining in the contest. Lake Forest also defeated St. Norbert College 5-3 in Friday's semifinal round.
Ranked eighth in the nation in this week's USCHO.com poll, Lake Forest is one of five teams in the nation to earn its league's automatic bid. The other three teams in the tournament, including #3 River Falls, earned at-large berths.
The Foresters are 14-8-3 overall this season and finished in a tie for second place in the NCHA standings with a conference record of 11-5-2.
Lake Forest will be looking to avenge last year's 4-1 loss at River Falls in the NCAA Tournament. The Foresters were also edged out 1-0 in River Falls in early February of this season.
The Falcons finished first in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a league mark of 10-1-1 and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 6-1 in the WIAC O'Brien Cup Final on Saturday. River Falls is 24-3-1 overall and making its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Tourney and eighth appearance in team history.
The winner of Saturday's game will face the winner of the quarterfinal contest between Elmira College and Trinity College (Conn.) in the semifinals on Friday, March 20. In other quarterfinal action, defending NCAA champion Plattsburgh State University will host the University of St. Thomas and Norwich College will travel to Middlebury College. The NCAA Tournament semifinals, as well as the final on March 21, will be played at the site of the highest remaining seeded semifinalist.
