The Forester women's hockey team built an early lead but had to settle for a 4-4 tie at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. Lake Forest is now 10-5-3 overall and 9-3-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season.
The visitors struck first two minutes and 54 seconds into the game on senior forward Laura Reckdenwald's ninth goal of the year. She was assisted by junior forward Michelle Greeneway. Senior forward Marissa Weber added to the Foresters lead just 73 seconds later on her seven score of the season. Freshman defenseman Kayla Griffith earned an assist on the play. After the Saints got on the scoreboard at the 11:28 mark, sophomore forward Allie Girard netted Lake Forest's third goal of the opening period at 15:18. Her sixth goal this season was assisted by junior forward Melissa Paluch.
Greeneway's team-high 14th goal of the year at the 1:45 mark of the second period gave the Foresters a 4-1 lead.
St. Scholastica began its comeback with a score at 7:49 in the second and completed it with goals at 2:41 at 12:00 in the third.
Lake Forest had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal in the first period and an 8-3 edge in the second. The home team put eight shots on goal to the Foresters' five in the third period and Lake Forest out-shot the Saints 5-1 in the scoreless five-minute overtime.
St. Scholastica is now 8-9-3 overall and 6-5-3 in the league this year.
The Foresters will play two more road games next weekend. After taking on NCHA foe St. Norbert College Saturday afternoon at 2:00, Lake Forest wlil travel to former league member UW-River Falls Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
