The Lake Forest College women's hockey team posted a 8-0 victory at Finlandia University Friday night. Junior forward Michelle Greeneway scored a pair of goals to become the Foresters' career leader with 65 scores in just her third season.
Greeneway's first goal of the game made the score 2-0 at the 17:02 mark of the opening period. It broke her tie with Kim Herring, who scored 63 goals for the Foresters from 2008-12. The record-breaker was assisted by freshman forward Amanda Brunges and junior forward Melissa Paluch, who scored the visitors' first goal at 2:33.
The Foresters also scored a pair of goals in the second period, beginning with the first career score by freshman Olivia Spellmire at 14:21. Freshman forward Leah Ebdon earned her first career assist on the goal. Senior forward Morgan Pope added her sixth goal of the season with 25 seconds left in the period with freshman defenseman Melissa Bodine picking up her first career assist on the play.
Lake Forest lit the lamp four times in a six-minute span in the third period. Senior forward Emily Wybo began the scoring barrage at 11:29 with her sixth goal of the year. Senior forward Laura Reckdenwald and sophomore forward Allie Girard assisted on the score. Greeneway assisted on Paluch's eighth goal of the year at 15:13 and Paluch returned the favor just eight seconds later. It was Greeneway's team-high 13th goal of the season. Senior forward Marissa Weber closed out the scoring at 17:31 with her sixth goal of the year. Her first career short-handed score was assisted by Paluch, who became just the sixth player in team history with five or more points in a game.
Forester junior goaltender Allie Carter needed just 10 saves to record her first career shutout. She improved to 4-4-2 with a .902 save percentage and 2.19 goals against average on the year.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 10-5-2 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 9-3-1. The Lions fell to 0-16-0 overall and 0-13-0 on the season.
The Foresters will travel to the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. face-off.
