The Forester women's hockey team hosted and defeated the College of St. Scholastica 3-1 on Saturday. Less than 24 hours after scoring the game-tying goal against the Saints, Lake Forest sophomore forward Allie Girard netted the game-winner on Saturday.
Girard's second goal of the season gave the home team a 2-0 lead with five minutes to play in the second period. She was assisted by senior forward Emily Wybo and freshman defenseman Kayla Griffith.
Lake Forest had taken the lead on junior forward Melissa Paluch's third goal of the year at the 15:08 mark of the opening period. Fellow junior forward Holly Lesperance earned her team-high sixth assist of the season on the play.
The Saints finally got on the scoreboard at the 5:15 mark of the third period. They pulled their goaltender with a minute-and-a-half remaining in the contest and the Foresters took advantage 50 seconds later on junior forward Michelle Greeneway's third goal of he year. Senior forward Morgan Pope was credited with an assist as Greeneway tied Robyn Slater for fifth place in team history with 78 career points.
The Foresters out-shot St. Scholastica 12-5 in the opening period and 12-9 in the second. The Saints, however, put 11 shots on goal to Lake Forest's six in the final 20 minutes.
Forester sophomore goalie Casey Hartfiel made 24 saves on the afternoon and improved to 2-1-0 with a 1.68 goals against average and .921 save percentage on the year.
Lake Forest is now 4-3-1, both overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Scholastica fell to 5-2-1 overall and in the league.
The Foresters will not play next weekend. Their next game will be at Marian University on Wednesday, December 3.
