The Lake Forest College women's hockey team was defeated 3-0 at Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday night. However, a 2-1 shootout victory after the contest brought the trophy from the inaugural "Border Battle" to Lake Forest.
The "Border Battle" is a new tradition between the two schools, with a traveling trophy going to the winner of the weekend series. Lake Forest took the opener 5-1 at home Friday night and Concordia won on Saturday. Shootout goals by senior forward Morgan Pope and freshman forward Amanda Brunges gave the Foresters the victory in the ensuing shootout, which only decides the winner of the trophy and does not influence the conference standings.
Concordia scored in the opening period of the regulation game and added a power play goal and an empty net score in the third.
The Foresters out-shot the Falcons 23-11 over the final two periods and 33-22 in the contest.
The loss drops Lake Forest's overall and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association records to 3-3-0. Concordia Wisconsin is now 4-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the league.
