Senior Lucia Stumbras took both sets 6-1 at #3 singles in her final career match at home, a 7-2 victory for the Lake Forest College women's tennis team against North Park University.
Stumbras, the only senior on the 2016-17 Foresters, was honored by her teammates and coach before the match.
Lake Forest then started the contest by splitting matches at the top two spots in the doubles lineup. North Park won at #1 while Forester sophomores Allison Watts and Amy Budde defeated their counterparts at #2 8-1.
The home team earned the match's next six points, beginning with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph by junior Kyra Vidas at #6 in her collegiate debut. Budde prevailed 6-2 in each set at #4 and Stumbras finished off her 6-1, 6-1 victory at #3. Watts won 6-0, 6-2 at #2 to clinch the match for the Foresters and Grosse came out on top of a 6-3, 6-1 decision at #5.
Due to a player from North Park arriving late, the #3 doubles match was played after the participants finished in singles. Grosse and junior Mimi Vaintrub prevailed 8-6 for Lake Forest's final point of the contest.
The Foresters are now 10-8 on the season while North Park fell to 3-12.
Lake Forest will wait 13 days before playing its next match, a 6:00 p.m. contest at Wheaton College on Friday, April 21.
