Senior Lucia Stumbras was one of two Foresters to win twice as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team prevailed 5-4 at Lawrence University on Sunday.
Stumbras and freshman Leeza Bodnar finished off a sweep of the three doubles matches with an 8-5 triumph at #1. Sophomore Allison Watts and freshman Zilvia Kulbokas had blanked their opponents 8-0 at #2 while freshman Sara Grosse and Samantha Russell came out on top of an 8-6 decision at #3.
Kulbokas was the first to finish in singles and her 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #4 gave the Foresters a 4-0 lead. Stumbras then clinched the match for Lake Forest when she completed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3.
The Vikings took the other four singles matches, including two in third-set tiebreakers.
Lake Forest won 9-0 at Ripon College before falling 6-3 at St. Norbert College on Saturday. The 2-1 trip to Wisconsin improves the Foresters' overall record to 5-3 and evens the team's Midwest Conference mark at 3-3. Lawrence fell to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.
The Foresters' next contest will be a non-conference match against Elmhurst College next Sunday. It will begin at 1:00 p.m.
