Freshman Leeza Bodnar won at the top of the singles and doubles lineups as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated visiting Knox College 8-1 on Sunday. The victory clinched a spot for the Foresters in the four-team MWC Tournament.
Bodnar and senior Lucia Stumbras doubled up the top doubles team from Knox 8-4. Lake Forest sophomore Allison Watts and freshman Silvia Kulbokas posted an 8-1 victory at #2 and the Foresters' #3 tandem of freshmen Sara Grosse and Samantha Russell won 8-2.
Lake Forest also prevailed at each of the top five spots in the singles lineup with Bodnar's 6-3, 6-2 triumph the closest of the five. Watts did not drop a game at #2 and Stumbras took both sets 6-1 at #3. Kulbokas and Grosse, respectively, defeated the Prairie Fire's #4 and #5 players by the same 6-0, 6-1 score.
The Foresters are now 8-4 overall this season and they finished their Midwest Conference schedule with a league record of 6-3. Knox fell to 5-12 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Lake Forest will compete in the MWC Individual Tournaments in Madison, Wisconsin, next Saturday and Sunday. The Foresters will compete as a team again in the spring.
