Raquel Allen's tenure as head coach of the Lake Forest College women's tennis team started with a 7-2 victory over Edgewood College on Saturday. The match was moved indoors to the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff due to weather.
Allen's Foresters' began the evening by taking two of three doubles matches. Freshman Leeza Bodnar made her collegiate debut with senior Lucia Stumbras at #1 doubles and came out on top of an 8-2 decision. Freshman Silvia Kulbokas was also successful in her first match as a Forester, a 9-8 (7-3) triumph with sophomore Allison Watts at #2 doubles that gave the home team a 2-1 lead.
Watts appeared at the top of the singles lineup for the first time at the College and posted a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory. Bodnar took both sets 6-3 at #2 and Stumbras came out on top of a 6-2, 6-1 decision at #3. Freshman Sara Grosse defeated her counterpart at #5 singles 6-1, 6-4 and classmate Samantha Russell did not lose a game at #6.
Edgewood's record on the young season fell to 1-1.
Lake Forest will be back in action next Saturday at two different locations. The Foresters will play at Alverno College at 9:00 a.m. before beginning defense of their Midwest Conference title at Beloit College at 3:00 p.m.
