Sophomore Allison Watts and freshman Silvia Kulbokas won twice but the Lake Forest College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting Elmhurst College on Sunday.
Watts and Kulbokas defeated the Bluejays' #2 doubles team 8-5 to even the team score at 1-1. Elmhurst had taken the early lead with a victory at #3 and later regained the advantage with a win at #1.
The Elmhurst lead was 3-1 before the Foresters earned the next three points in the match to take a 4-3 lead. Watts won 6-2, 6-1 at #2, senior Lucia Stumbras prevailed 6-0, 7-5 at #3, and Kulbokas came out on top of a 6-4, 7-5 decision at #4. The visitors, however, posted victories at the bottom two spots in the lineup to take the match.
The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 5-4 while Elmhurst improved to 3-4.
Several Lake Forest players will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, next weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships. Play begins Friday morning.
