Sophomore Allison Watts dropped a total of just four games in four matches on Saturday as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team posted 9-0 victories over visiting Illinois College and Monmouth College.
Watts and freshman Silvia Kulbokas defeated the #2 doubles team from Illinois College 8-1. Freshmen Sara Grosse and Samantha Russell prevailed 8-0 at #3 and freshman Leeza Bodnar and senior Lucia Stumbras posted an 8-6 victory at #1 to complete a doubles sweep.
Watts, Stumbras, and Kulbokas won 6-0, 6-1 at #2, #3, and #4 singles, respectively. Bodnar won 6-3, 6-4 at the top spot in the lineup, Grosse triumphed 6-2, 6-0 at #5, and Russell recorded a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #6.
Grosse and Russell did not lose a game at #3 doubles again against Monmouth while the other two doubles teams prevailed 8-2.
Watts and Stumbras blanked their singles opponents 6-0, 6-0 and Kulbokas won both sets 6-1. Grosse won 6-3, 6-2 at #5 and Russell 6-0, 6-1 at #6. Bodnar came out on top of a 7-5, 6-3 decision at #1 to finish off the day.
The victories raised Lake Forest's overall record on the season to 7-4 and the Foresters are now 5-3 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College fell to 1-8 overall and 1-7 in the league. Monmouth's record dropped to 1-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
The Foresters will play their final league match against Knox College Sunday afternoon at 2:00. A victory would secure a spot for Lake Forest in the four-team MWC Tournament, which will be played in the spring.
