The Lake Forest College women's soccer team blanked visiting Lawrence University 2-0 in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday. Forester senior defender Courtney Garth helped limit the Vikings to just five shots in her final career home game.
It was the second straight shutout and sixth of the season for the Foresters, who out-shot the visitors 11-3 in the first half and 14-2 in the second. Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made three saves and improved her goals against average on the year to 1.37.
Both goals in the game were scored in the first two minutes, beginning just 67 seconds into the contest with sophomore forward Holly Lesperance's 10th of the season. Fellow sophomore forward Michelle Greeneway netted her team-high 24th goal of the year just 47 seconds later. Both scores were unassisted.
Greeneway's goal gave her a program record 52 points on the season, breaking the previous mark of 51 set by Melissa Stevenson 10 years ago. Greeneway's 91 career points in just two seasons is tied for fourth in team history.
Lesperance is now tied for 15th in school history with 61 career points.
The victory raised the Foresters' overall recod to 13-4-1 and they finished 7-2-1 in Midwest Conference play. It was the season finale for the Vikings, who fell to 5-10-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the league.
Lake Forest will be the #3 seed in next weekend's MWC Tournament at St. Norbert College and the Foresters will play Monmouth College in the semifinals at 11:00 a.m.
