The Forester women's soccer team prevailed 5-3 at Ripon College on Saturday. Lake Forest sophomore forward Holly Lesperance became the sixth player in team history to score at least four times in a game.
Lesperance was simply in the right place at the right time on her first score of the day. A Ripon defender tried to clear the ball shortly after a Forester corner kick and it caromed off her and into the goal.
Lesperance scored again to make the score 2-0 at the 22:04 mark and completed her first career hat trick exactly seven minutes later. Her second and third goals of the game were assisted by fellow sophomore Michelle Greeneway.
Ripon converted a penalty kick opportunity at 35:42 and trailed 3-1 at halftime. The Red Hawks pulled to within one goal at 62:45 and tied the score less than six minutes later.
The visitors regained the advantage on Greeneway's team-high 10th goal of the season. She headed in a cross from freshman Kyle Chavarria at 70:23.
Lesperance, who entered the game with three goals on the season, scored for the fourth time in the game at 81:29.
Lake Forest outshot the home team 13-10 in the first half and 11-7 in the second.
Forester freshman goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta tallied nine saves on the day and raised her record on the season to 7-3-0.
Lake Forest is now 8-3-0 overall this year and 3-1 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon fell to 6-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the league.
The Foresters will travel to Carroll University on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. game under the lights.
