The Forester women's soccer team held on for a 2-1 victory over visiting Edgewood College Sunday afternoon in the season opener for both teams. Lake Forest junior Michele Giurovici scored the home team's first goal of the season.
Giurovici converted a corner kick opportunity 16 minutes and 19 seconds into the contest. Sophomore Sam Hillis assisted on the score.
The Foresters added to their lead just 76 seconds later when sophomore Holly Lesperance set up classmate Michelle Greeneway. It was the eighth time in their short careers that Lesperance and Greeneway combined for a score and it was Greeneway's fifth career game-winning goal.
Edgewood finally got on the scoreboard with 14:31 to play in the contest but was unable to tie the score.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta earned the victory in her collegiate debut.
The Foresters will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m.
