The Forester women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at UW-Superior Saturday afternoon (November 7), less than 24 hours after knocking off the nation's 10th-ranked team 2-1. Lake Forest is now 3-0-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Yellowjackets are 0-1-1 overall and in the league.
As they did the day before, the teams held each other scoreless
in the opening period. Lake Forest out-shot the home team 5-4 in
the frame.
Three of the game's four goals were scored in the second period,
beginning with Forester junior Sam Herron's (Clinton Township,
Mich./Victory Honda) first of the season at 3:29. Herron was
assisted by classmate Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) and
sophomore Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School).
Superior, however, tied the game on a 5-on-3 power play goal at
7:13 and took the lead on an even-strength score at 17:23. The
Yellowjackets held a 7-6 advantage in shots in the period and led
2-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Herring netted the official game-tying goal at the 5:31 mark of the
third period. The power play goal, her fifth score of the year, was
assisted by senior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines
H.S.). Herring leads the squad with seven points in the season's
first four games.
Both goaltenders faced 10 shots on goal in teh third period and
Forester junior Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas
Panthers) added the only save during the 5-minute overtime period,
giving her 20 in the contest.
