The Forester women's hockey team hosted and defeated Finlandia
University 5-1 on Sunday (November 22), completing a weekend sweep
of the Lions. Lake Forest, which entered the weekend ranked 10th in
the nation by US College Hockey Online, is now 7-0-1 on the year
overall and 3-0-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.
Finlandia fell to 2-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.
The Foresters jumped out to a 3-0 lead and out-shot Finlandia 19-4
in the first period. Senior Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team
Illinois) started things off at the 6:17 mark with her second goal
of the season. She was asssited by freshman Angie Chronis (Ann
Arbor, Mich./Victory Honda) and junior Melissa Kravich (Wilmette,
Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College). Freshman Rosy Fujimoto (Wasilla,
Alaska/Team Alaska) doubled the home team's lead at 8:55 with
assists credited to junior Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio
Flames) and freshman Jenn Caldwell (Glenview, Ill./Chicago
Mission). Freshman Denise Perez (San Jose, Calif./Minnesota
Thoroughbreds) lit the lamp just 61 seconds later. Her first career
goal was assisted by classmate Chelsea Thompson (Anchorage,
Alaska/Team Alaska).
Switaj netted the Foresters' only goal of the second stanza just 64
seconds into the period. She was assisted by senior Jamie Sauer
(Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.) and matched her
career-high with three points in the contest. Finlandia got on the
scoreboard on a power play goal at the 16:28 mark. The Foresters
held a 23-3 edge in shots on goal in the frame.
The final goal of the contest was scored by Switaj at the 13:32
mark of the third period. Her second score of the contest and
fourth this season was assisted by sophomore Kim Herring (Dover,
N.H./Groton School). The home team put 14 more shots on goal and
Forester junior goaltender Brittany Lemke (St. Charles, Ill./St.
Mary's University) made eight saves in the period. She is now 3-0-0
on the season with a .933 save percentage on the season.
After a weekend off, the Foresters will host UW-Stevens Point the
following Saturday and Sunday (December 4-5). Both games will begin
at 2:00 p.m.
