Lake Forest College women's hockey player Kim Herring
(Dover, N.H./Groton School) was named Northern Collegiate Hockey
Association Player of the Week on Tuesday (February 23) for her
performance in a series against visiting Concordia University
Wisconsin the previous weekend (February 19-20). The Foresters won
both game to claim the first conference championship in team
history.
Herring, a sophomore forward, assisted on the first score of Friday
night's 3-1 NCHA title-clinching victory. She scored the
second goal of the contest, breaking the program's
single-season record with 23. She also assisted on an insurance
goal late in the contest.
The Foresters came from behind three times in Saturday's 5-4
triumph. Herring scored two goals and assisted on the other three
to tie the team record of five points in a single game.
Herring now leads the nation in points per game (1.91) and owns
single-season school records with 25 goals and 44 points. Her 19
assists are just one shy of the mark. She netted the game-winning
goal in both games last weekend and leads the nation with eighth
game-winners on the year, just two shy of the NCAA Division III
record.
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Players of the Week are
selected by the league's sports information director. Herring
also earned the award on December 8.
