The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association released its All-NCHA
Teams on Friday (February 26). Lake Forest placed three on the
first team and three others were honorable mention selections. In
addition, sophomore Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School) was
named NCHA Player of the Year and Carisa Zaban was the league's
Coach of the Year.
Herring, a forward, ranks first in the nation in points per game
(1.91) and game-winning goals (8). Her 44 points and 25 goals are
both program records and her 19 assists are just one shy of the
mark. Herring led the NCHA with 29 points and 16 goals and tied for
the conference lead with 13 assists during the league's 16-game
regular season.
Forester senior Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) and
Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.) made up half
of the first team defense. Bean's 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists)
led NCHA defensemen and Sauer was tied for second with 17 (1 goal,
16 assists). During conference play they tied for the league lead
with 14 points apiece and Sauer tied Herring's 13 assists.
Junior forwards Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) and
Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) were
honorable mention selections, as was classmate Alyssa Wintermute
(Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) at goaltender. Switaj is
tied for fifth in the conference with 29 points on 11 goals and 15
assists while Kravich ranks ninth with 23 points on 10 goals and 13
assists. Wintermute is 10-1-4 overall this season with a .911 save
percentage and 2.28 goals against average.
Zaban has led the Foresters to a 17-2-4 overall record, an 11-1-4
mark in league play, and the first conference championship in team
history. Lake Forest easily surpassed the program record of 14
victories and their 94 goals lead the NCHA and are six more than
the previous school record.
The Foresters will host Finlandia University in the quarterfinals
of the NCHA's O'Brien Cup Tournament this weekend (February 27-28).
The teams will face off at 7:00 Saturday night and 2:00 the
following afternoon. Live video webcasts of both contests will be
available at at pennatlantic.com.
