On Sunday (November 15) the Forester women's hockey team
remained unbeaten on the season (5-0-1) by winning 6-1 for the
second day in a row at Augsburg College. The Auggies fell to
0-4-0.
The first period of the game was scoreless, despite Lake Forest's
17-3 advantage in shots.
Neither team scored in the second period until Forester sophomore
Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School). took over the team lead
with her sixth goal of the year at 11:56. She was assisted by
junior Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) and freshman Angie Chronis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Victory Honda). Lake Forest out-shot the
home team 10-8 in the period but led by just one goal after 40
minutes of play.
Augsburg tied the game on a power play goal less than two minutes
into the third period. Lake Forest, however, responded with five
goals in less than 12 minutes of play. Sophomore Jessica Dare
(Whitmore Lake, Mich./Belle Tire) started the barrage by scoring
what turned out to be the official game-winner at 2:29. She matched
Herring's six goals on the season thanks to assists from senior
Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.) and freshman
Denise Perez (San Jose, Calif./Minnesota Thoroughbreds). Junior
Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) then
converted Forester power play opportunities at 3:09, 9:17, and
14:08. Her first career hat trick gave her four goals on the year
and her her second three-point game of the weekend was also the
fifth of her career. Switaj and sophomore Molly Wallner (Chatham,
Ill./Chicago Young Americans) assisted on Kravich's first goal and
Herring was credited with a helper on each of the last two, giving
her a team-high 12 points this season. The visitors' other goal was
scored by freshman Jenn Caldwell (Glenview, Ill./Chicago Mission)
at 12:41. Her first career goal was assisted by Chronis and fellow
freshman Chelsea Thompson (Anchorage, Alaska/Team Alaska).
Another 17-3 advantage for the Foresters in shots gave them a 44-14
edge in the game. Lake Forest junior goaltender Brittany Lemke (St.
Charles, Ill./St. Mary's University) was between the pipes for the
second straight day and finished the game with 13 saves. She
stopped 28 of 30 shots (93.3%) on the weekend.
Lake Forest will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play
at home next weekend (November 21-22) against Finlandia University.
The Foresters will host the Lions at 7:00 Saturday night and 2:00
Sunday afternoon.
