The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 7-2 at Marian
University Saturday evening (January 30). Lake Forest fell to
7-10-1 overall and 7-6-1 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association
play. The Sabres now own a 12-6-0 overall record and 11-2-0 mark in
league games.
Marian scored the only goal of the opening period at 10:33. The
Sabres scored again one minute and 50 seconds into the second and
added a third goal just 76 seconds later. A power play goal at
15:04 gave the home team a 4-0 advantage after 40 minutes of
play.
After another power play goal by Marian at the 1:45 mark of the
third period, the Foresters converted a power play opportunity of
their own at 5:22. Freshman Marc Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St.
Michael's Buzzers) scored the goal, his team-high 10th of the
season, and senior Sean Farley (Park Ridge, Ill./Utica College)
earned the assist. The Sabres struck again on the power play at
15:44. Lake Forest freshman Tyler Hauer (Toronto, Ontario/Pickering
Panthers), who was making his collegiate debut, closed out the
scoring with another power play goal at 18:47. Senior Peter Pfeffer
(Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars) and sophomore Joel Gard
(Orangeville, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) assisted on the score.
It was Pfeffer's team-high 14th assist of the year and he tied
Rubino for the team lead with 18 points.
Lake Forest will host Adrian College, the 11th-ranked team in the
nation, next weekend (February 5-6). The teams will face off at
7:30 Friday night and 2:30 the following afternoon. Live radio
broadcasts of both games will be available at
