The Forester men's hockey team closed out the 2009-10 regular
season with a 5-1 victory over visiting Concordia University
Wisconsin Saturday night (February 20). Lake Forest is now 8-14-2
overall and 8-10-2 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play.
The Falcons finished the season with a 0-20-5 overall record and
0-16-4 mark in league play.
The Foresters and Falcons played a scoreless opening period for the
second consecutive night.
The annual Peter Taylor Award was presented to senior Adam Love
(Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) after the first period. Love
is the squad's active leader in goals and team captain.
The second period was marred by 17 penalties, including four game
misconducts, for a total of 94 minutes. Both goaltenders were still
perfect until the 14:24 mark when Forester freshman Zak Borowski
(Gloucester, Ma./Granite City Lumberjacks) lit the lamp for the
fifth time this season. The power play goal was assisted by
classmate Thomas Bark (Toronto, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) and
senior Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars).
Senior Sean Farley (Park Ridge, Ill./Utica College) scored just 46
seconds later with freshman Justin Crawford (Cobourg,
Ontario/Peterborough Stars) earning the assist. Sophomore Ben Finney (Pontypool, Ontario/Robert Morris University) then netted
his second goal of the season at the 17:30 mark with assists
credited to Bark and senior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley,
Idaho/Walpole Stars). Farley scored his second goal of the game and
eighth this season just 24 seconds later. Pfeffer assisted on
Farley's score and added his third helper of the period and
team-high 18th of the season on junior Tyler Gross' (Fond du Lac,
Wis./Fond du Lac H.S.) goal with just 3.2 seconds on the clock.
Love also assisted on the second score of the year for Gross.
A Concordia goal at 5:54 in the third period was the only blemish
on Forester freshman goaltender Brendan Sullivan's (Fall River,
Mass./Aurora Tigers) stat line. He stopped 29 of 30 shots on goal,
including a breakaway in the closing seconds of the game.
Love, Pfeffer, Farley, Taylor, and fellow senior Nick Ghidina
(Pekin, Ill./Wichita Falls Wildcats) were recognized before the
contest and started the final home game of their careers.
Lake Forest will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering next
weekend (February 27-28) for a two-game quarterfinal series in the
MCHA Playoffs. The teams will face off at 7:05 Saturday night and
4:00 Sunday afternoon.
