The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 6-0 by
Marian University at home Friday night (January 29). The Foresters
fell to 7-9-1 overall and 7-5-1 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey
Association play. The Sabres are now 11-6-0 overall and 10-2-0 in
league play.
Lake Forest started the game strong and out-shot Marian 12-7 during
a scoreless first period.
The Foresters were assessed a pair of penalties in the second
period and, although there were no official power play goals, the
Sabres scored shortly after each penalty expired. The first goal
came at 12:56 and the second at 18:54. Marian out-shot the home
team 17-5 in the period and led 2-0 going into the game's final 20
minutes.
Lake Forest was unable to convert three power play opportunities in
the first nine minutes of the third period and surrendered a goal
at 5:50. Marian netted a 5-on-3 goal at 10:42 and followed it up
with another power play score just 36 seconds later. The visitors
closed out the scoring with 70 seconds to play and finished the
period with 18 shots to the Foresters' five.
The same two teams will face off again in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin,
tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. It will be Marian's annual "Pink Out"
game to raise money to fight breast cancer. Pink t-shirts will be
available for $15 and will serve as aadmission to the game.
