Senior defender Amy Sherman scored the first and last goals of the Lake Forest College women's soccer team's 4-0 triumph over Illinois College at home on Sunday.

Sherman headed in a corner kick from the left side by sophomore Jo Hendriksen at the 24:07 mark to give the home team the early lead. It was Sherman's first score of the season and the team-high sixth assists of the year for Hendriksen.

Junior Kayla Wuest scored the second goal of the contest. Senior Kyle Chavarria was credited with an assist after receiving a long pass from Hendriksen and firing a shot on goal from close range in the left side of the box. The goalie was able to save the shot from Chavarria but the rebound went to Wuest, who kicked it into the wide open right side of the goal for her team-high seventh score of the season.

Lake Forest out-shot the Lady Blues 8-0 in the game's first 45 minutes and had a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The third goal was also scored on a rebound. Freshman Emma Byrne's shot from the right side was saved but not controlled by a diving goalkeeper. Sophomore Susie Baca was there to kick the loose ball into another wide open net, increasing her goal total on the year to six.

Sherman's second goal of the day and season came on another corner kick, this time from junior Shari Jacobson. She sent the ball just in front of the goal where it was tipped up into the air by the goalie. Sherman headed it in for her first career multi-goal game.

The Foresters had a 13-3 edge in shots in the second half and senior goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta was forced to make just one save while earning her program record-tying 18th career shutout.

Lake Forest is now 9-7-1 overall this year and 5-2-1 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College fell to 7-9-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the league.

The Foresters will close out the regular season at home against Ripon College at 2:30 next Sunday afternoon. Lake Forest will need at least a tie, if not a victory, against the Red Hawks to clinch a berth in the four-team MWC Tournament at Knox College November 4-5.
