Sophomore Jo Hendriksen scored her first goal of the season and added an assist to help lead the Lake Forest College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Cornell College on Saturday.
Hendriksen's score at the 26:56 mark gave the home team a 2-0 lead and turned out to be the official game-winning goal, the first of her career. The Foresters had taken the lead just six minute searlier on sophomore Susie Baca's first score of the season. Senior Katelyn Hronek assisted on goal.
The score remained 2-0 for the rest of the first half. Lake Forest out-shot the Rams 13-0 in the period.
Cornell's only goal of the contest came on a free kick at the 58:27 mark.
A corner kick by Hendriksen set up the final score of the day. Senior Amy Sherman was able to head the ball into the air just in front of the goal and classmate Lindsay Hartup headed it over the goalkeeper to make the score 3-1. It was the third goal of the season for Hartup, tying her for the team lead in that category.
Lake Forest had a 12-7 advantage in shot attempts during the game's final 45 minutes.
Forester senior goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta made two saves in the second half to earn the 40th victory of her career.
Lake Forest evened its overall record on the season at 4-4-0 and Midwest Conference mark at 1-1-0. The Rams fell to 2-6-0 overall in their league opener.
The Foresters will be back in action on Sunday against visiting Grinnell College. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
