Sophomore Frankie Corrado shot at 86 on Friday and freshmen Kalay Kotasek and Anhayte Guajardo repeated the feat on Saturday as the Lake Forest College women's golf team placed 12th at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Spring Fling over the weekend.
Lake Forest's score of 350 on Saturday was the best round in the program's two-year history by seven strokes. Kotasek and Guajardo led the way with scores of 86. Kotasek birdied both of the par-5s on the front nine while Guajardo carded a three on the par-4 sixth hole in between them, as well as a four on the par-5 14th. Kotasek also have five pars and Guajardo four on the day.
Senior Alex Dunn had six pars on the front nine and four more on the back while posting an 88 in the final round of her career. Corrado's score of 90 included six pars and a birdie on the sixth.
Corrado had four pars to go with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole during her team-best 86 on Friday. She also led the Foresters in the overall standings, tying for 45th out of 78 golfers in the field with a two-day score of 176. Guajardo's 91 on Friday included a birdie on the fifth and she played the five par-5 holes just two over par on the weekend. She finished tied-for-48th at 177. Dunn had six pars on Friday but finished with a score of 96 and her two-day score of 184 left her tied-for-60th overall.
Wartburg won the event with a two-day score of 624, eight shots ahead of runner-up Carthage College and 10 stroke better than third-place Hope College. Lake Forest was in 12th place out of 16 teams after Friday's competition and, despite posting the 10th-best score on Saturday, was unable to move up in the standings.
It was the Foresters' final event of the year. Dunn will be the team's only loss to graduation next month.
